This course uncovers the biography and achievements of great women from ancient and medieval Africa, through the slave trade, right up to the present periods. The opening class salutes the work of the pioneering African American historians, Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins, Drusilla Houston, and Anna Melissa Graves. With their work emerged a new concept of Black history that underpins the course. Clearly there is a need for this sort of information.
