One question that school teachers often ask us is: How to include Black History into the National Curriculum at Key Stage?
As you are probably already aware, the Government has modified the National Curriculum for History this academic year (2008-2009). This has meant that new topics have been added to the programme that were not there before including:
- Olaudah Equiano
- The Pre-Colonial West African Kingdoms
- Resistance to the Slave Trade
History teachers have told us that they are unfamiliar with these topics and lack both the time and the confidence to be able to comfortably research and teach these new areas.
